The surname is found predominantly among the Saryupareen Brahmins, Kanyakubja, Saraswat, Bhumihar Brahmin, Sakaldwipi Brahmin and other Brahmin communities. This is also found in Karnataka's Veershaiva communities as Pande instead of Pandey, Veershaiva community is dominantly spread over north Karnataka state of India and some part of south Maharastra.
