Osborne Railway Station

Osborne railway station is a railway station on the Outer Harbor railway line which is located in the northwestern Adelaide suburb of North Haven, rather than the suggested Osborne. It is located 19.6 km by railway from the Adelaide Railway Station. This station is just north of where the main line becomes single track. Osborne once had two platforms (island layout) but it was closed in the 1980s when the balloon loop was removed at Outer Harbor. There was a nearby branchline just south of the station that went to the ICI Osborne works, but that branchline has since been dismantled.

Famous quotes containing the words osborne, railway and/or station:

Miss Western: Tell me, child, what objections can you have to the young gentleman?
Sophie: A very solid objection, in my opinion. I hate him.
Miss Western: Well, I have known many couples who have entirely disliked each other, lead very comfortable, genteel lives.
    —John Osborne (1929–1994)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

Say first, of God above, or Man below,
What can we reason, but from what we know?
Of Man what see we, but his station here,
From which to reason, or to which refer?
Thro’ worlds unnumber’d tho’ the God be known,
‘Tis ours to trace him only in our own.

    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
