Oromo Liberation Front - Bodeno Massacre

Bodeno Massacre

Even though various massacres have been carried by OLF on ethnic Amhara during the 1991-92 transition periods, the Bodeno Massacre was one of the most devastating with around 150 civilian deaths. Most of the victims, ethnic Amharas, were at the wrong end of both ethnic politics and historical animosity. Amhara residents of central and southern non-Amhara regions are often labeled the derogatory word- Neftengas, typically by Oromo supporters of the OLF. According to Human Right, in mid-April 1991, most of the Amhara civilians were murdered by OLF and several forced to jump off a cliff. Regarding OLF's role, Human Rights Watch reported, "Some of the worst incidents of violence occurred when Oromo people attacked Amhara settlers in their vicinity."
