Ohio State Route 85 - History

History

State Route 85 made its debut in 1924, consisting of what is now the stretch of U.S. Route 6 between Euclid and Andover, as well as the entirety of the current State Route 85 from Andover to the Pennsylvania State Line. When U.S. Route 6 made its debut in Ohio in 1932, it was routed via the stretch of State Route 85 between Euclid and Andover. For the six years following, U.S. Route 6 and State Route 85 were run concurrently along that stretch of roadway. In 1938, State Route 85 was truncated to its current routing between Andover and the connection to Pennsylvania Route 285 on the Pymatuning Causeway, leaving U.S. Route 6 to be the lone route running between Euclid and Andover.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

America is the only nation in history which miraculously has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization.
    Georges Clemenceau (1841–1929)

The basic idea which runs right through modern history and modern liberalism is that the public has got to be marginalized. The general public are viewed as no more than ignorant and meddlesome outsiders, a bewildered herd.
    Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)

History has neither the venerableness of antiquity, nor the freshness of the modern. It does as if it would go to the beginning of things, which natural history might with reason assume to do; but consider the Universal History, and then tell us,—when did burdock and plantain sprout first?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
