Under the current consensus government, political parties are not currently recognized in Northwest Territories law, but a few scattered candidates have run in recent elections claiming to represent the Liberal party. The most notable of which is Lynda Sorenson, Northwest Territories MLA from 1979 - 1983. Efforts by Liberals towards reviving party politics have not been officially organized.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or era:
“Anne: He hit me, Jack. My own brother, he hit me.
Jack: Your brothers an old-fashioned man, he believes in a sisters honor. Me, Im Modern Man, the 20th-century type. I run.”
—Robert Rossen (19081966)
“It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past.... Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
—George Steiner (b. 1929)
