Northen Etchells - History

History

Northen Etchells existed as a township from the Middle Ages until 1894.

Northen Etchells and Stockport Etchells were collectively called Etchells and often administered together from the 16th to 18th centuries.

Northen Etchells ceased to exist as an administrative body in 1894. Cheshire County Council was created (along with 61 others) in 1888. In 1894 Rural District Councils and Parish Councils replaced the old townships. Northen Etchells became part of Bucklow Rural District Council, electing one councillor to the council.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Considered in its entirety, psychoanalysis won’t do. It’s an end product, moreover, like a dinosaur or a zeppelin; no better theory can ever be erected on its ruins, which will remain for ever one of the saddest and strangest of all landmarks in the history of twentieth-century thought.
    Peter B. Medawar (1915–1987)

The history of the world is the record of the weakness, frailty and death of public opinion.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

False history gets made all day, any day,
the truth of the new is never on the news
False history gets written every day

    the lesbian archaeologist watches herself
sifting her own life out from the shards she’s piecing,
asking the clay all questions but her own.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
