History

This traditionally safe district of Newcastle upon Tyne for the Labour Party has been less so since 2006, when a pattern of the Liberal Democrats winning council seats across the constituency with large majorities was noticed. Famous quotes containing the word history:

For a transitory enchanted moment man must have held his breath in the presence of this continent, compelled into an aesthetic contemplation he neither understood nor desired, face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to his capacity for wonder.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)

    I saw the Arab map.
It resembled a mare shuffling on,
    dragging its history like saddlebags,
nearing its tomb and the pitch of hell.
Adonis [Ali Ahmed Said] (b. 1930)

Racism is an ism to which everyone in the world today is exposed; for or against, we must take sides. And the history of the future will differ according to the decision which we make.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)
