Famous quotes containing the words world, translation, holy and/or scriptures:
“Whatever happens, every individual is a child of his time; so philosophy too is its own time apprehended in thoughts. It is just as absurd to fancy that a philosophy can transcend its contemporary world as it is to fancy that an individual can overleap his own age, jump over Rhodes.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“The Bible is for the Government of the People, by the People, and for the People.”
—General prologue, Wycliffe translation of the Bible (1384)
“Real holy laughter in the river! They saw it all! the wild eyes!
the holy yells! They bade farewell! They jumped off the roof! to
solitude! waving! carrying flowers! Down to the river! into the street!”
—Allen Ginsberg (b. 1926)
“A dream is a scripture, and many scriptures are nothing but dreams.”
—Umberto Eco (b. 1932)
