Six Acre Standard
The Six Acre Standard aims to help land use planners ensure a sufficient level of open space to enable residents of all ages to participate in sports and games with an emphasis on access for children to play grounds and other play space.
The standard suggests that for each 1000 residents there should be 2.4 hectares (6 acres) as follows.
- 1.6 hectares (4 acres) for outdoor sport and recreation space (including parks)
- 0.8 hectares (2 acres) for children's play, with about 0.25 ha of this equipped playgrounds
In its publication The Six Acre Standard, the NPFA outlines a more detailed breakdown including a hierarchy of child play space.

Famous quotes containing the words acre and/or standard:
“And every acre good enough to eat,
As fine as flour put through a bakers sieve.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“Error is a supposition that pleasure and pain, that intelligence, substance, life, are existent in matter. Error is neither Mind nor one of Minds faculties. Error is the contradiction of Truth. Error is a belief without understanding. Error is unreal because untrue. It is that which seemeth to be and is not. If error were true, its truth would be error, and we should have a self-evident absurditynamely, erroneous truth. Thus we should continue to lose the standard of Truth.”
—Mary Baker Eddy (18211910)
