Famous quotes containing the words national, center, research and/or resources:

I, with other Americans, have perhaps unduly resented the stream of criticism of American life ... more particularly have I resented the sneers at Main Street. For I have known that in the cottages that lay behind the street rested the strength of our national character.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)

I think that New York is not the cultural center of America, but the business and administrative center of American culture.
    Saul Bellow (b. 1915)

To be sure, nothing is more important to the integrity of the universities ... than a rigorously enforced divorce from war- oriented research and all connected enterprises.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

Your children don’t have equal talents now and they won’t have equal opportunities later in life. Your heart will be broken a thousand times if you really expect to equalize your children’s happiness by striving to love them equally.
    Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)
