The National Ballet Theater of Puerto Rico (Spanish: Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico) is one of the leading ballet companies in Puerto Rico.
It was formed by former members of Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico after the company was paralyzed by a dancers' strike in 2004. They performed for the first time in April 2005 at the Francisco ArrivĂ Theater in San Juan under the direction of Miguel Campaneria.
The company is located in the city of Guaynabo.
Famous quotes containing the words national, ballet and/or theater:
“...America has enjoyed the doubtful blessing of a single-track mind. We are able to accommodate, at a time, only one national hero; and we demand that that hero shall be uniform and invincible. As a literate people we are preoccupied, neither with the race nor the individual, but with the type. Yesterday, we romanticized the tough guy; today, we are romanticizing the underprivileged, tough or tender; tomorrow, we shall begin to romanticize the pure primitive.”
—Ellen Glasgow (18731945)
“Anyone who has a child today should train him to be either a physicist or a ballet dancer. Then hell escape.”
—W.H. (Wystan Hugh)
“Be reflective ... and stay away from the theater as much as you can. Stay out of the theatrical world, out of its petty interests, its inbreeding tendencies, its stifling atmosphere, its corroding influence. Once become theatricalized, and you are lost, my friend; you are lost.”
—Minnie Maddern Fiske (18651932)
