Famous quotes containing the word life:
“Young men of the fairest promise, who begin life upon our shores, inflated by the mountain winds, shined upon by all the stars of God, find the earth below not in unison with these, but are hindered from action by the disgust which the principles on which business is managed inspire, and turn drudges, or die of disgust, some of them suicides.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Excellence encourages one about life generally; it shows the spiritual wealth of the world.”
—George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
“The life of a creator is not the only life nor perhaps the most interesting which a man leads. There is a time for play and a time for work, a time for creation and a time for lying fallow. And there is a time, glorious too in its own way, when one scarcely exists, when one is a complete void. I meanwhen boredom seems the very stuff of life.”
—Henry Miller (18911980)
