Controversy About Naming The Expressway

The expressway was conceived and the work started when the BJP and Shiv Sena ruled Maharashtra. At some point they decided to name the expressway after one of the greatest Marathi writers, Purushottam Laxman Deshpande. Eventually, in 2009, the ruling coalition (Congress, NCP) named the expressway after the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Yashavantrao Chavan who was instrumental in the development of Maharashtra and an early member of the Congress party.

Famous quotes containing the words controversy and/or naming:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

See, see where Christ’s blood streams in the firmament!
One drop would save my soul—half a drop! ah, my Christ!—
Ah, rend not my heart for naming of my Christ!—
Yet will I call on him!—O, spare me, Lucifer!—
Where is it now? ‘T is gone; and see where God
Stretcheth out his arm, and bends his ireful brows!—
Mountains and hills, come, come and fall on me,
And hide me from the heavy wrath of God!
    Christopher Marlowe (1564–1593)
