Contest
The Mr. Fur Face Contest continues today as one of the longest running beard contests in America. The 2011 contest was held on March 5, 2011. Contestants vie for the title in categories such as:
- Mr. Alaskan Whaler - A beard without a mustache
- Mr. Brown Bear - Brown beard
- Mr. Black Bear - Black beard
- Mr. Honey Bear - Blond beard
- Mr. Mountain Goat - Goatee
- Mr. Polar Bear - White beard
- Mr. Pole Cat - Mixed color beard
- Mr. Ptarmigan - Anything goes
- Mr. Pyrite - Fake beard or mustache
- Mr. Red Fox - Red Beard
- Mr. Soup strainer - Mustache
- Mr. Wolf - Trim, suave beard
The categories are based primarily on facial hair color, but include categories for beard style as well. Three judges choose the winner, but ladies from the audience, affectionately known as the "beard fondlers", are eager to assist in choosing the champion. Each category has a winner and the overall title of Mr. Fur Face is given to the grand champion chosen from the best in each group.

Famous quotes containing the word contest:
“I expect to maintain this contest until successful, or till I die, or am conquered, or my term expires, or Congress or the country forsakes me.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
“By his mere quiet power, on the minds of the now contestants, He could have either saved or destroyed the Union without a human contest. Yet the contest began. And having begun He could give the final victory to either side any day. Yet the contest proceeds.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
“Theologians should not be ashamed to admit that they cannot enter a contest with such antagonists [the sceptics], and that they do not want to expose the Gospel truths to such an attack. The ship of Jesus Christ is not made for sailing on this stormy sea, but for taking shelter from this tempest in the haven of faith.”
—Pierre Bayle (16471706)
