The Current System
The MLT alphabet adopts the Latin alphabet of 26 letters to express the basic sounds of Taiwanese:
- a b c ch e f g h i j k kh l m n ng ΓΈ o p ph q r s t th u v y z zh
A MLT word, like each English word, can be formed by only one syllable or several syllables, with the two syllables being the most typical. Each syllable in MLT follows either one of the two underlying patterns (phonemes inside the bracket are optional):
- + + vowel +
- + vowel + +

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or system:
“What in fact have I achieved, however much it may seem? Bits and pieces ... trivialities. But here they wont tolerate anything else, or anything more. If I wanted to take one step in advance of the current views and opinions of the day, that would put paid to any power I have. Do you know what we are ... those of us who count as pillars of society? We are societys tools, neither more nor less.”
—Henrik Ibsen (18281906)
“Hence, a generative grammar must be a system of rules that can iterate to generate an indefinitely large number of structures. This system of rules can be analyzed into the three major components of a generative grammar: the syntactic, phonological, and semantic components.”
—Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)
