Miss Ecuador - History

History

The first winner of a Miss Ecuador pageant was Sara Chacón from Guayas province in 1930. The contest was inactive for more than 20 years until 1955 when Leonor Carcache won the first modern title of Miss Ecuador and became the first representative of the country to the Miss Universe pageant.

Representatives from the 24 provinces that make up Ecuador compete annually for the title of Miss Ecuador among others. In addition of representatives to Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss International, Miss Ecuador also selects candidates for Miss Tourism Queen International, Reina Hispanoamericana, Miss Continente Americano, Miss America Latina, Miss Caribbean, Miss Global Cities, Miss Globe International, Miss Bikini International, Miss Asia Pacific, Miss Leisure, Miss Tourism World, Reina Nacional del Café, Miss Mesoamerica, Miss Intercontinental, Reina Mundial del Banano and other small pageants.

Yanbal, a cosmetics brand, is the major sponsor of Miss Ecuador. Although the candidates are representatives of each province, they do not necessarily live in that province.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

English history is all about men liking their fathers, and American history is all about men hating their fathers and trying to burn down everything they ever did.
    Malcolm Bradbury (b. 1932)

The foregoing generations beheld God and nature face to face; we, through their eyes. Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the universe? Why should not we have a poetry and philosophy of insight and not of tradition, and a religion by revelation to us, and not the history of theirs?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

There is one great fact, characteristic of this our nineteenth century, a fact which no party dares deny. On the one hand, there have started into life industrial and scientific forces which no epoch of former human history had ever suspected. On the other hand, there exist symptoms of decay, far surpassing the horrors recorded of the latter times of the Roman empire. In our days everything seems pregnant with its contrary.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
