Federal Protection Denied
On August 31, 2001, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and VernalPools.Org to list the midvalley fairy shrimp as an endangered species pursuant to the Endangered Species Act, and to concurrently designate critical habitat for the species. On April 29, 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published a finding in Federal Register notice that the petition presented substantial information to indicate that listing might be warranted. After reviewing the available scientific and commercial information, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have found that listing is not warranted at this time.

Famous quotes containing the words federal, protection and/or denied:
“If the federal government had been around when the Creator was putting His hand to this state, Indiana wouldnt be here. Itd still be waiting for an environmental impact statement.”
—Ronald Reagan (b. 1911)
“The protection of a ten-year-old girl from her fathers advances is a necessary condition of social order, but the protection of the father from temptation is a necessary condition of his continued social adjustment. The protections that are built up in the child against desire for the parent become the essential counterpart to the attitudes in the parent that protect the child.”
—Margaret Mead (19011978)
“It is as absurd to say that [due to motherhood] all women shall be denied the suffrage, as it would be to deny all men the suffrage, because some are liable, periodically, to inflammatory rheumatism, delirium tremens, or financial failure.”
—Anonymous, U.S. womens magazine contributor. The Revolution (February 17, 1870)
