Messiah College in Popular Culture

Following the US Justice Department Scandal in which Messiah College alumna Monica Goodling was intimately involved, several members of the media ridiculed Messiah College. Jon Stewart on The Daily Show referred to Messiah as a school "where people have faith that they'll receive a quality education, and yet somehow it never arrives," and "that everyone in the God business knows is a 'savior school'." Bill Maher focused his satirical criticism on Goodling's legal education at Regent University, but also mocked Messiah, calling it "the home of the Fighting Christies."

Famous quotes containing the words messiah, college, popular and/or culture:

I take such men to be inspired. I fancy that this moment Shakespeare in heaven ranks with Gabriel Raphael and Michael. And if another Messiah ever comes twill be in Shakespeare’s person.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

Love begins like a triolet and ends like a college yell.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

The popular colleges of the United States are turning out more educated people with less originality and fewer geniuses than any other country.
    Caroline Nichols Churchill (1833–?)

Without metaphor the handling of general concepts such as culture and civilization becomes impossible, and that of disease and disorder is the obvious one for the case in point. Is not crisis itself a concept we owe to Hippocrates? In the social and cultural domain no metaphor is more apt than the pathological one.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)
