She is rejuvenated, and first works as a nursing assistant, then a nurse, and eventually a physician/rejuvenator herself. But she regrets not knowing the eventual fate of her beloved father, Dr. Ira Johnson, and on the advice of co-husband Jubal Harshaw becomes an agent of the Time Corps (often accompanied by Pixel, the titular "Cat Who Walks Through Walls"). She is kidnapped by the "Committee For Aesthetic Deletions" while on a research trip and held in Kansas City on a previously unknown time-line. Famous quotes containing the words time, corps and/or career:
“I waited alone, in the company of orchids, roses and violets wholike people waiting beside you, but to whom you are unknownmaintained a silence which their individuality of living things rendered more imposing and in their chilly manner received the heat from an incandescent coal fire, preciously placed behind a crystal glass, in a white marble tub where it dropped, from time to time, its dangerous rubies.”
—Marcel Proust (18711922)
“Lamour pour lui, pour le corps humain, cest de même un intérêt extrêmement humanitaire et une puissance plus éducative que toute la pédagogie du monde!”
—Thomas Mann (18751955)
“Never hug and kiss your children! Mother love may make your childrens infancy unhappy and prevent them from pursuing a career or getting married! Thats total hogwash, of course. But it shows on extreme example of what state-of-the-art scientific parenting was supposed to be in early twentieth-century America. After all, that was the heyday of efficiency experts, time-and-motion studies, and the like.”
—Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
