Music
The Music Department (ground floor H Block) has two orchestral rehearsal rooms, a computer lab, eight solo to quartet practise rooms, a locker room, a lendable instrumental storage room and department office. There are five class music teachers and 24 private instrumental teachers. In Year 3 students learn to play the recorder, and in Year 4 are given a choice of either Violin, Viola or Cello. Every alternate year a major musical is staged at the College's 600 seat Flinders Performance Centre. In 2013 this was "Guys and Dolls". Every other year a series of plays is put on. The Year 6 (formerly Year 7) musical is performed every year at the Flinders Performance Centre. The school has ten musical groups – three string orchestras, three chorales and four wind ensembles.

Famous quotes containing the word music:
“The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“It is from the blues that all that may be called American music derives its most distinctive character.”
—James Weldon Johnson (18711938)
“If music in general is an imitation of history, opera in particular is an imitation of human willfulness; it is rooted in the fact that we not only have feelings but insist upon having them at whatever cost to ourselves.... The quality common to all the great operatic roles, e.g., Don Giovanni, Norma, Lucia, Tristan, Isolde, Brünnhilde, is that each of them is a passionate and willful state of being. In real life they would all be bores, even Don Giovanni.”
—W.H. (Wystan Hugh)
