Famous quotes containing the words stock, car and/or company:

I met a Californian who would
    Talk California—a state so blessed
He said, in climate, none had ever died there
A natural death, and Vigilance Committees
Had had to organize to stock the graveyards
    And vindicate the state’s humanity.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    If a man, cautious,
    hides his limp,
Somebody has to limp it! Things
    do it; the surroundings limp.
    House walls get scars,
the car breaks down; matter, in drudgery, takes it up.
    Robert Bly (b. 1926)

We noticed several other sandy tracts in our voyage; and the course of the Merrimack can be traced from the nearest mountain by its yellow sand-banks, though the river itself is for the most part invisible. Lawsuits, as we hear, have in some cases grown out of these causes. Railroads have been made through certain irritable districts, breaking their sod, and so have set the sand to blowing, till it has converted fertile farms into deserts, and the company has had to pay the damages.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
