Maria Minor church (Sancta Maria Minor kyrka) is a church rediscovered after archaeological surveys in Lund, Sweden.
A post church with palisade walls, also called Sancta Maria, was discovered in 1911 on a site just south of the great square, Stortorget. That church had been built in the mid 11th century, 1060 is postulated through dendrocronological dating, at a time when several stave churches were erected in Lund.
Famous quotes containing the words maria, minor and/or church:
“It were a blessed sight to see
That child become a willow tree,
His brother trees among.
Hed be four times as tall as me,
And live three times as long.”
—Catherine Maria Fanshawe (17651834)
“There are acacias, a graceful species amusingly devitalized by sentimentality, this kind drooping its leaves with the grace of a young widow bowed in controllable grief, this one obscuring them with a smooth silver as of placid tears. They please, like the minor French novelists of the eighteenth century, by suggesting a universe in which nothing cuts deep.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
“He felt that it would be dull times in Dublin, when they should have no usurping government to abuse, no Saxon Parliament to upbraid, no English laws to ridicule, and no Established Church to curse.”
—Anthony Trollope (18151882)
