Maharani Kishori - Humanity

Humanity

When the Marathas were defeated in the Third Battle of Panipat, some one hundred thousand Maratha survivors returning south reached Suraj Mal’s territory without food, arms or clothing. Famous quotes containing the word humanity:

It is because Humanity has never known where it was going that it has been able to find its way.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

It is a purely relative matter where one draws the plimsoll- line of condemnation, and ... if you find the whole of humanity falls below it you have simply made a mistake and drawn it too high. And are probably below it yourself.
    Frances Partridge (b. 1900)

But nothing is better than a truth which appears not to have the semblance of truth. There is always something incomprehensible about the great heroic deeds performed by humanity because they rise so far beyond the mediocre measure of mere mortals; but it is always only because of the incredible feats that human beings have accomplished that humanity recovers its faith in itself.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)
