Madras School of Economics is an institution of higher education in economics, located in Chennai, India. Affiliated with Central University of Tamil Nadu, it offers master's and doctoral programs in the area of economics.
The Madras School of Economics,Chennai came into existence in 1995. The primary objective was to create a center that would nurture quality teaching and research programs in economics. Within a short span of time it has realized this objective and is today counted among the premier institutes for higher education and research in economics in India. M.S.E. has an eclectic blend of faculty, academicians, researchers and professionals drawn from India and abroad, with their vast pool of expertise distinguishes the institution from others and gives it a revered position. In a very short tenure, the institute has been able to make a mark for itself among the leading economics institutions in India. All the programs offered at the institute provide a wide range of electives to the students. It equips them with a combination of quantitative techniques and value focused decision making ability. All this is imparted through a coursework which is offered in a flexible mode. Owing to its excellence, The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded MSE an “A” grade and The Ministry of Environment and Forests has designated MSE as a Centre of Excellence in Environmental Economics.
With a very active research unit and well formulated curriculum, it has made its presence felt in both government as well as the corporate sector. The students are provided with unique ambiance conducive for academic, social and cultural enrichment. With an in-depth subjective knowledge and wit, the students here have proved themselves conduit to the various sectors they worked in, including consumer and corporate banking, academia, investment banking, analytics, research cells and various government bodies.
It recently introduced a five-year integrated Master's course in Economics for school pass-outs. This is in collaboration with the Central University of Tamil Nadu with an intake of 50 students per year.
