The great dynastic success of Louise's six children was to a great extent not the accomplishment of Christian IX himself, but a result of her own ambitions. Some have compared her dynastic capabilities with the those of Queen Victoria.
On her death in 1898, she was interred in Roskilde Cathedral near Copenhagen.
Louise's nephew Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse, married to a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and of German Emperor Wilhelm I, was elected King Charles of Finland in 1918. He never took up the position.

Famous quotes containing the words children and, children, louise, grandmother and/or europe:
“Could it be that those who were reared in the postwar years really were spoiled, as we used to hear? Did a child-centered generation, raised in depression and war, produce a self-centered generation that resents children and parenthood?”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
“the children call, and I
Thy shepherd pipe, and sweet is every sound,
Sweeter thy voice, but every sound is sweet;
Myriads of rivulets hurrying through the lawn,
The moan of doves in immemorial elms,
And murmuring of innumerable bees.”
—Alfred Tennyson (18091892)
“I sometimes think I was born to live up to my name. How could I be anything else but what I am having been named Madonna? I would either have ended up a nun or this.”
—Madonna [Madonna Louise Ciccione] (b. 1959)
“Time to plant tears, says the almanac.
The grandmother sings to the marvellous stove
and the child draws another inscrutable house.”
—Elizabeth Bishop (19111979)
“I believe that the fundamental proposition is that we must recognize that the hostilities in Europe, in Africa, and in Asia are all parts of a single world conflict. We must, consequently, recognize that our interests are menaced both in Europe and in the Far East.”
—Franklin D. Roosevelt (18821945)
