Los Angeles Airport Police - Fallen Officers

Fallen Officers

The Los Angeles Airport Police was fortunate enough to have not encountered a line of duty death for most of its history (59 years). However, on April 29, 2005, Airport Police Officer Tommy Edward Scott was killed while investigating a suspicious person near an airport perimeter fence. His killer, William Sadowski, was apprehended by responding police officers after crashing a car he car hijacked from a citizen who stopped to assist Officer Scott. Sadowski was convicted of first-degree murder and carjacking on November 16, 2009. On January 15, 2010, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Famous quotes containing the words fallen and/or officers:

“In great misfortunes,” he told himself, “people want to be alone. They have a right to be. And the misfortunes that occur within one are the greatest. Surely the saddest thing in the world is falling out of love—if once one has ever fallen in.”
Falling out, for him, seemed to mean falling out of all domestic and social relations, out of his place in the human family, indeed.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)

In the weakness of one kind of authority, and in the fluctuation of all, the officers of an army will remain for some time mutinous and full of faction, until some popular general, who understands the art of conciliating the soldiery, and who possesses the true spirit of command, shall draw the eyes of all men upon himself. Armies will obey him on his personal account. There is no other way of securing military obedience in this state of things.
    Edmund Burke (1729–1797)
