Long Road Sixth Form College - The College Today

The College Today

The college has approximately 2,000 full-time students enrolled, who are between the ages of 16 and 19. Most of these students study on A- and AS-Level courses, although an increasing number are taking Level 3 Diploma courses, and many also study on one-year GCSE courses or level 2 diploma courses. Around 75% of students go onto Higher Education from Long Road each year and students tend to apply for a broad range of different universities, from Redbricks to former Polytechnics, with a small proportion going on to Oxbridge. A significant proportion of students each year also go into full-time work, often in management traineeships, or take a gap year before further study or work. The College is in the top 10% in the country for helping students achieve better grades than were predicted when they joined the College.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or today:

Face your own ambivalence about letting go and you will be better able to help you children cope with their own feelings. The insight you gain through your own acceptance of change will bolster your confidence and make you a stronger college parent. The confidence you develop will be evident to your child, who will be able to move away from you without fear.
    Norman Goddam (20th century)

If you’re born in America with a black skin, you’re born in prison, and the masses of black people in America today are beginning to regard our plight or predicament in this society as one of a prison inmate.
    Malcolm X (1925–1965)
