- James Hillhouse (1754–1832), Connecticut State Representative 1780–1785, Delegate to the Continental Congress from Connecticut, Connecticut Councilman 1789–1790, U.S. Representative from Connecticut 1791–1796, U.S. Senator from Connecticut 1796–1810. Son of William Hillhouse.
- Thomas Hillhouse (1817–1897), New York State Senator 1860–1861, Comptroller of New York 1866–1867. Nephew of James Hillhouse.
