List Of Scottish League Cup Winners

The Scottish League Cup, known as the Scottish Communities League Cup for commercial purposes, is a knockout cup competition in Scottish football, organised by and named after the Scottish Football League.

The competition was established in 1947, the format was taken from the Southern League Cup which operated as a regional tournament (national for its last season) during World War II. It is considered to be the second most important domestic cup competition in Scottish football, after the Scottish Cup. The competition is open to all 30 members of the Scottish Football League and the 12 members of the Scottish Premier League.

Rangers hold the record for most wins with 27 and the most final appearances with 34, Celtic are second with 14 wins and 28 appearances. The Cup is currently held by St. Mirren, who defeated Hearts 3–2 in the 2013 final. Since the Hearts v Kilmarnock final in the 1962-63 season, only seven of the 46 subsequent finals have involved neither of the 'Old Firm' teams Rangers and Celtic. Amongst the Old Firm themselves, when they are drawn together in earlier rounds of the League Cup it is extremely common for the victor to go on to win the whole competition. In 1973-74 Dundee defeated Celtic after The Hoops had beaten Rangers; however since then (7 occasions excluding finals) an Old Firm League Cup win for either club has always preceded success in the final.
