Lehman, Lee & Xu - History

History

Its managing director, Edward Lehman, is an attorney who came to China from the United States in 1987 to work for the representative office of American law firm Lord Bissell & Brook (now known as Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell), first in Shanghai and later also in Beijing. Following the events of June 4, 1989, foreign law firms retreated from mainland China and, fearing an inability to guarantee the safety of their employees, pulled their operations and associated international staff back to jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, which they perceived as less risky.

Lehman, Lee & Xu was the eighth private law firm to be founded in the People's Republic of China. However it has been beset by legal problems and litigation cases against it for much of the past five years with actions taken against the firm and its Managing Partner, Ed Lehman, in Hong Kong, China, Mongolia and the United States.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    The custard is setting; meanwhile
I not only have my own history to worry about
But am forced to fret over insufficient details related to large

Of being, with or without my help, if any were forthcoming.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

The history of all countries shows that the working class exclusively by its own effort is able to develop only trade-union consciousness.
    Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870–1924)

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
