Athletic Union
The Athletic Union is separate to the Leeds Met Students' Union but maintains historically close links. Leeds Met regularly features well in the fixtures of university sports in the UK. They did lose the Varsity Rugby Union 2009 finale to Leeds University by 26-7, however the team put out by Leeds Met was the second team, due to the first teams commitment to a BUCS match. Varsity fixtures between the two universities prove to be highly popular and competitive each year.

—Douglas Jerrold (18031857)
“Our age is pre-eminently the age of sympathy, as the eighteenth century was the age of reason. Our ideal men and women are they, whose sympathies have had the widest culture, whose aims do not end with self, whose philanthropy, though centrifugal, reaches around the globe.”
—Frances E. Willard 18391898, U.S. president of the Womens Christian Temperance Union 1879-1891, author, activist. The Womans Magazine, pp. 137-40 (January 1887)
