Control of The Disease
Although various methods are under investigation, spraying the leaves with fungicides is the most common and efficient control method. Spraying should be done well before budding. The climate determines the type of fungicide used and how often, since experiments have shown that the fungi are temperature-dependent. Copper-based mixtures and lime sulfurs are two fungicides commonly used.
If a plant appears to have symptoms of leaf curl in a particular year, precautions can be taken to maximize crop yield for that spring: for example, treating with nitrogen and excess water to minimize stress on the plant. Thinning the tree might also help it focus on producing good peaches. Removing the infected leaves and fruit after they fall to the ground can help prevent the infection from returning the following year. Fungicide might also be used before winter on the tree.

Famous quotes containing the words control and/or disease:
“The inability to control our childrens behavior feels the same as not being able to control it in ourselves. And the fact is that primitive behavior in children does unleash primitive behavior in mothers. Thats what frightens mothers most. For young children, even when out of control, do not have the power to destroy their mothers, but mothers who are out of control feel that they may destroy their children.”
—Elaine Heffner (20th century)
“The peace loving nations must make a concerted effort in opposition to those violations of treaties and those ignorings of humane instincts which today are creating a state of international anarchy and instability from which there is no escape through mere isolation or neutrality.... When an epidemic of physical disease starts to spread, the community approves and joins in a quarantine of the patients in order to protect the health of the community against the spread of the disease.”
—Franklin D. Roosevelt (18821945)
