Lead Time in Production Planning
In production planning, lead time is very important. Suppose, A product is made from material B and material C. Material B is made from material C. It means, if there will delay in the material C, there will be the delay in material B. So, there will be delay in the production of product A. Customer will not get delivery on the time. So, we fix the deadline for getting supply and production. Suppose, we have fixed the 30 days of delivery after customer places the purchase order. It means, we have to fix the date of buying and production of material B and C which we can easily calculate with lead time chart.

Famous quotes containing the words lead, time, production and/or planning:
“I have no scheme about it,no designs on men at all; and, if I had, my mode would be to tempt them with the fruit, and not with the manure. To what end do I lead a simple life at all, pray? That I may teach others to simplify their lives?and so all our lives be simplified merely, like an algebraic formula? Or not, rather, that I may make use of the ground I have cleared, to live more worthily and profitably?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Chaucer is fresh and modern still, and no dust settles on his true passages. It lightens along the line, and we are reminded that flowers have bloomed, and birds sung, and hearts beaten in England. Before the earnest gaze of the reader, the rust and moss of time gradually drop off, and the original green life is revealed. He was a homely and domestic man, and did breathe quite as modern men do.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The production of obscurity in Paris compares to the production of motor cars in Detroit in the great period of American industry.”
—Ernest Gellner (b. 1925)
“When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.”
—Thomas Paine (17371809)
