Famous quotes containing the words country, day and/or school:

[N]o country can squander itself to prosperity on the ruin of its taxpayers.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)

Sunday—A day given over by Americans to wishing that they themselves were dead and in Heaven, and that their neighbors were dead and in Hell.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

Dissonance between family and school, therefore, is not only inevitable in a changing society; it also helps to make children more malleable and responsive to a changing world. By the same token, one could say that absolute homogeneity between family and school would reflect a static, authoritarian society and discourage creative, adaptive development in children.
    Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
