Kundara

Kundara (Malayalam: കുണ്ടറ Kuṇṭaṟa) among the oldest of the industrial towns of Kerala, is located on the banks of the ashtamudi backwaters of Kollam. It is the setting up of an electrical substation to distribute the hydel power generated by the state that saw the growth of this rather ancient industrial town of Kerala. Kollam is the nearest business hub for the today's satellite town of Kollam city Kollam district of Kerala, India. Kundara is still home to some very early industrial units in the state as:KEL, Kerala Ceramics, Aluminium Industries Ltd. (Alind), Laxmi Starch Factory etc.

Some historical importance is lent to the satellite town for the Kundara Proclamation (Malayalam: കുണ്ടറ വിളംബരം) of Velu Thampi Dalawa in 11 January 1809 calling on people to fight the British. Kollam is known for the fact that the Malayalam Era commences with a rebuilding of the town after probably a cataclysmic event.

Kundara is located on the cliffs that adjoin the Kanjiracodu (Malayalam: കാഞ്ഞിരകൊട്) a branch of the Astamudi or the 'eight braided' backwaters. 'Karimeen' Green chromide (Malayalam: കരിമീന്‍‌), is local delicacy and when fished from these waters supposedly tastier than when caught from anywhere else.
