Krosno

Krosno (in full The Royal Free City of Krosno, Polish: Królewskie Wolne Miasto Krosno; Ukrainian: Коросно, Korosno; German: Krossen) is a town and county in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland with 47,455 inhabitants, as of 2 June 2009.

Notably Krosno is the site of the first oil well (or "mine") in the world.

Krosno is a medieval fortified town, a former Royal Free Town, a centre of cloth, linen, canvas, baize and Hungarian wine trade. Until recently it was a provincial capital. Today it is a medium-sized town with a population of fifty thousand, ranking sixth among Polish towns with the best living conditions. This evident success appears understandable when one looks at the history of the town.
