Karafuto Prefecture - Government

Government

Karafuto was administered from the central government in Tokyo as the Karafuto Agency (樺太庁, Karafuto-cho?) under the Colonization Bureau (拓務局, Takumukyoku?) of the Home Ministry. The Colonization Bureau became the Ministry of Colonial Affairs (拓務省, Takumushō?) in 1923 at which time Karafuto was officially designated an overseas territory of the Empire of Japan.

When the Ministry of Colonial Affairs was absorbed into the new Ministry of Greater East Asia in 1942, the administration of Karafuto was separated, and Karafuto became an integral part of the Japanese home islands.

Famous quotes containing the word government:

A woman does not have to make decisions based on the need to survive. She can cut through issues, call shots as she sees them.... Many bad decisions are made by men in government because it is good for them personally to make bad public decisions.
    Dianne Feinstein (b. 1933)

Give me a country where it is the most natural thing in the world for a government that does not understand you to let you alone.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

You and I ... are convinced of the fact that if our Government in Washington and in a majority of the States should revert to the control of those who frankly put property ahead of human beings instead of working for human beings under a system of government which recognizes property, the nation as a whole would again be in a bad situation.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)
