History
The idea of a medical college was conceived by Achyuta Samanta when such a private college in Odisha was thought unrealistic. The ground realities were tough but he had the courage to move ahead with the project even if there were nothing optimistic to look forward to.
The college building was constructed first.Subsequently, in August 2004 faculties were appointed.Up to that point Mr Satyajit Mohanty,CEO played the lead role in initiating things.
Prof.Radhe Shyam Panda soon took over as the principal of KIMS .It was realised that MCI rules are fast changing. They were getting more strict regarding giving permission to new Medical colleges. The hospital at KIMS was extended to take up more indoor patients.OPD timings were extended and better services were provided for free. All were taking place in a makeshift hospital in the Godown area of the former MAGNETIC company.
On June 2005 a new hospital building was made at the place of the old makeshift hospital. It was completed in a record time of 60 days. The hospital acquired new equipment like a CT scan.It grew up to a higher level.Towards later part of the year Dr R.N.Samanta joined in as the Hospital Administrator. He heralded a new change to the hospital. It began to run in a more professional way.His leaving the institution due to unknown reasons caused concerns for some time .
2006 saw the beginning of the inspection processes by the MCI. Inspections and negative results got disappointments but hope was always there.June saw the coming of Prof S.C.Dash an eminent nephrologist from AIIMS as the superintendent.he later took over as the Principal of KIMS. A noted nephrologist, he took the institute to its recognition from the MCI. That was in June 2007. The institute was formally given permission to start MBBS course in 2007.
The hospital part of KIMS is set to get a big leap forward with the inception of a new four hospital complex. The institute was earlier affiliated to Utkal University, however in 2009 in came under the ambit of KIIT University.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Let us not underrate the value of a fact; it will one day flower in a truth. It is astonishing how few facts of importance are added in a century to the natural history of any animal. The natural history of man himself is still being gradually written.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The history of medicine is the history of the unusual.”
—Robert M. Fresco, and Jack Arnold. Prof. Gerald Deemer (Leo G. Carroll)
“No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
