June Haimoff - Turtle Conservation Foundation

Turtle Conservation Foundation

In 2009 June Haimoff took an exam to obtain Turkish citizenship in order to start a foundation to protect the habitat of the loggerhead turtle. The Kaptan June Sea Turtle Conservation Foundation was officially established in February 2011 and has its Information Centre and Museum in Kaptan June's Hut at the minibus side of the beach, overlooking the place where the building of the Kaunos Beach Hotel started in April 1987.

Her work has been recognised by Queen Elizabeth II in the 2011 British New Year's Honors List.

June Haimoff still lives in Dalyan in a traditional Turkish house, named "The Peaceable Kingdom". She lives a very active life, supported by many friends and surrounded by her many dogs and cats.

Famous quotes containing the words turtle, conservation and/or foundation:

I think of the nestling fallen into the deep grass,
The turtle gasping in the dusty rubble of the highway,
The paralytic stunned in the tub, and the water rising,—
    All things innocent, hapless, forsaken.
    Theodore Roethke (1908–1963)

The putting into force of laws which shall secure the conservation of our resources, as far as they may be within the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, including the more important work of saving and restoring our forests and the great improvement of waterways, are all proper government functions which must involve large expenditure if properly performed.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Beautiful credit! The foundation of modern society. Who shall say that this is not the golden age of mutual trust, of unlimited reliance upon human promises? That is a peculiar condition of society which enables a whole nation to instantly recognize point and meaning in the familiar newspaper anecdote, which puts into the mouth of a distinguished speculator in lands and mines this remark:M”I wasn’t worth a cent two years ago, and now I owe two millions of dollars.”
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
