Their children were Joseph Ira Dassin (1938–80), a popular French singer in the 1970s; songwriter Richelle "Rickie" Dassin (born 1940); and actress–singer Julie Dassin (born 1944; also known as Julie D.).
  • Melina Mercouri, Greek actress and former wife of Panos Harokopos; they married in 1966 and remained married until Mercouri's death in 1994. She starred in several of Dassin's films.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

I was not at all apprehensive about ... disease ... [it] had no terrors for me. The thing I most feared in the world was hunger. That was something of which I had personal knowledge.
Madeleine [Blair], U.S. prostitute and “madam.” Madeleine, ch. 4 (1919)

When man has neither the strength to subdue his underworld powers—which are really the ancient powers of his old, superseded self; nor the wit to placate them with sacrifice and the burnt holocaust; then they come back at him, and destroy him again. Hence every new conquest of life means a “harrowing of Hell.”
