Judicial Commission of New South Wales - Composition

Composition

The commission is established as the “Judicial Commission of New South Wales” as a corporation under the Judicial Officers Act 1986 (NSW). It is usually referred to as the “Judicial Commission”. There are six official members and four appointed members. The six official members consist of:

  • the Chief Justice of New South Wales
  • the President of the Court of Appeal of New South Wales
  • the President of the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales
  • the Chief Judge of the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales
  • the Chief Judge of the District Court of New South Wales
  • the Chief Magistrate of the Local Court of New South Wales.

The four appointed members are appointed by the Governor of New South Wales on the recommendation of the Attorney General after consultation with the chief justice.

Whilst judicial officers are members of the corporation, it is an executive body rather than a judicial body.

Famous quotes containing the word composition:

I live in the angle of a leaden wall, into whose composition was poured a little alloy of bell-metal. Often, in the repose of my mid-day, there reaches my ears a confused tintinnabulum from without. It is the noise of my contemporaries.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

When I think of God, when I think of him as existent, and when I believe him to be existent, my idea of him neither increases nor diminishes. But as it is certain there is a great difference betwixt the simple conception of the existence of an object, and the belief of it, and as this difference lies not in the parts or composition of the idea which we conceive; it follows, that it must lie in the manner in which we conceive it.
    David Hume (1711–1776)

Vices enter into the composition of virtues as poisons into the composition of certain medicines. Prudence and common sense mix them together, and make excellent use of them against the misfortunes that attend human life.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)
