Famous quotes containing the words passing on, passing and/or knowledge:
“I not deny
The jury, passing on the prisoners life,
May in the sworn twelve have a thief or two
Guiltier than him they try. Whats open made to justice,
That justice seizes.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Beautiful glooms, soft dusks in the noon-day fire,
Wildwood privacies, closets of lone desire,
Chamber from chamber parted with wavering arras of leaves,
Cells for the passionate pleasure of prayer to the soul that grieves,
Pure with a sense of the passing of saints through the wood,
Cool for the dutiful weighing of ill with good;”
—Sidney Lanier (18421881)
“The mind
Is so hospitable, taking in everything
Like boarders, and you dont see until
Its all over how little there was to learn
Once the stench of knowledge has dissipated,”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
