Jatt Sikh - History

History

Jat-Sikhs are mostly descended from Jat-Hindus and some from Jat-Muslims.

Jats started to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak in small numbers and this grew after the formation of the Khalsa. They converted en masse to Sikhism from the time of Banda Singh Bahadur, and formed the vanguard of Sikh resistance against the Mughal Empire from the 18th century onwards. Note that controversial research by W H Mcleod based on the Martial Race theories states that Jats started joining Sikhism in large numbers during the period of the 6th Guru Hargorbind.

At least 7 of the 12 Sikh Misls (Sikh confederacies) were led by Jat-Sikhs.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of reform is always identical; it is the comparison of the idea with the fact. Our modes of living are not agreeable to our imagination. We suspect they are unworthy. We arraign our daily employments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

We know only a single science, the science of history. One can look at history from two sides and divide it into the history of nature and the history of men. However, the two sides are not to be divided off; as long as men exist the history of nature and the history of men are mutually conditioned.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

Philosophy of science without history of science is empty; history of science without philosophy of science is blind.
    Imre Lakatos (1922–1974)
