Models and Whistle Types
While many makers concentrated on limited variety, J Hudson & Co made a wide variety of common whistle types, including bird calls, dog calls, fox calls, musical whistles as well as sound effects, slide whistles and novelty combination whistles. Some models, such as the Thunderer Escargot-type and the Metropolitan general service whistle, have been popular throughout most of the company's history.
Hudson was the only maker in the United Kingdom to use wood horn, Bakelite, plastic and silver, while other firms were working solely with metal or other materials, James Dixon & Sons in the 19th century being an exception.

Famous quotes containing the words models, whistle and/or types:
“Today it is not the classroom nor the classics which are the repositories of models of eloquence, but the ad agencies.”
—Marshall McLuhan (19111980)
“Slavery is no scholar, no improver; it does not love the whistle of the railroad; it does not love the newspaper, the mail-bag, a college, a book or a preacher who has the absurd whim of saying what he thinks; it does not increase the white population; it does not improve the soil; everything goes to decay.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences. We must widen the range of topics and goals, the types of situations we offer and their degree of structure, the kinds and combinations of resources and materials, and the possible interactions with things, peers, and adults.”
—Loris Malaguzzi (19201994)
