Islands (The Band Album)
Islands is the seventh studio album by the Canadian-American rock group The Band. It was recorded in the group's Shangri-La studios and released in 1977 to mixed reviews. Islands was recorded in order to fulfill the group's contract with Capitol Records, so that the soundtrack to their film The Last Waltz could be released on Warner Bros. Records.
Islands is primarily composed of previously-unreleased songs from The Band's career, including their 1976 cover of "Georgia on My Mind", which was recorded to aid Jimmy Carter in his presidential bid. In the CD liner notes, Robbie Robertson compares the album to The Who's Odds and Sods.

Famous quotes containing the words islands and/or band:
“The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color-linethe relation of the darker to the lighter races of men in Asia and Africa, in America and the islands of the sea. It was a phase of this problem that caused the Civil War.”
—W.E.B. (William Edward Burghardt)
“What passes for identity in America is a series of myths about ones heroic ancestors. Its astounding to me, for example, that so many people really seem to believe that the country was founded by a band of heroes who wanted to be free. That happens not to be true. What happened was that some people left Europe because they couldnt stay there any longer and had to go someplace else to make it. They were hungry, they were poor, they were convicts.”
—James Baldwin (19241987)
