IQGAP1 - Related Proteins

Related Proteins

Homologues of IQGAP1 are known in species as divergent as yeast, worms, and humans (as well as other mammals), though the domains are not always highly conserved.

IQGAP1 is the most well studied member of the IQGAP family of scaffold proteins. The two other members of the family include IQGAP2 and IQGAP3 which have far more restricted expression patterns in comparison with IQGAP1. IQGAP2 is found in the liver, stomach, and platelets and is 62% identical to IQGAP1, but appears to have a drastically divergent function in terms of pathology.

IQGAP3 lacks the n-terminal CHD and WW domains of IQGAPs 1 and 2, and is mainly found in the brain and lungs. In the brain, IQGAP3 appears to play an important role in neuronal morphogenesis.

Famous quotes containing the words related and/or proteins:

Women stand related to beautiful nature around us, and the enamoured youth mixes their form with moon and stars, with woods and waters, and the pomp of summer. They heal us of awkwardness by their words and looks. We observe their intellectual influence on the most serious student. They refine and clear his mind: teach him to put a pleasing method into what is dry and difficult.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Civilization means food and literature all round. Beefsteaks and fiction magazines for all. First-class proteins for the body, fourth-class love-stories for the spirit.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)
