Iowa Highway 100 - History

History

Iowa 100 was designated in the early 1980s after the southern end of Iowa 150 was relocated to its current end in Vinton. It was established along the entirety of Collins Road NE in Cedar Rapids, which then extended from the I-380 interchange to 1st Avenue. Construction of Collins Road west of I-380 was proposed by 1983. By 1986, construction was completed and the road extended west to Edgewood Road NE.

In 1996, Iowa 100 was significantly lengthened eastward. An extension of Collins Road was built from the intersection at 1st Avenue in Cedar Rapids to US 151 / Iowa 13 in Marion. The Collins Road extension was originally planned in the 1960s as a bypass of Marion. Growth and development of the city during the 30 years between planning and building of the extension have diminished its utility as a bypass.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Racism is an ism to which everyone in the world today is exposed; for or against, we must take sides. And the history of the future will differ according to the decision which we make.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)

The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)
