The Event
The event attracted an audience of 7,000 people to readings and live and tape performances by a wide variety of figures, including Adrian Mitchell, Alexander Trocchi, Allen Ginsberg, Harry Fainlight, Anselm Hollo, Christopher Logue, George Macbeth, Gregory Corso, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Michael Horovitz, Simon Vinkenoog, Spike Hawkins, Tom McGrath, Ernst Jandl, and William S. Burroughs.
The event was formative for what became the UK underground over the subsequent years. Jeff Nuttall, author of Bomb Culture said "the Underground was suddenly there on the surface". Barry Miles described "a sense of constituency that was never there before... All these people recognised each other and they all realised they were part of the same scene".

Famous quotes containing the word event:
“The Republican convention, an event with the intellectual content of a GunsnRoses lyric attended by every ofay insurance broker in America who owns a pair of white shoes.”
—P.J. (Patrick Jake)
“When we awoke, we found a heavy dew on our blankets. I lay awake very early, and listened to the clear, shrill ah, te te, te te, te of the white-throated sparrow, repeated at short intervals, without the least variation, for half an hour, as if it could not enough express its happiness. Whether my companions heard it or not, I know not, but it was a kind of matins to me, and the event of the forenoon.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
