Charism
The specific charism of the Institute of the Incarnate Word is explicitly the "inculturation" of the Gospel, to extend the Incarnation “to all men, in the whole man, and in all of the manifestations of man," in accordance with the teachings of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. The members of the Institute accomplish this through working in the key areas of culture particularly families, education, mass media, and various intellectual apostolates.
The end of the Institute is the total consecration and donation of its members to God. To accomplish this, the religious of the IVE profess the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience under vow and live in community. A fourth vow of consecration to Mary, the Mother of God, is also made by the religious, following with the formula promoted by St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort.
