Purpose of Marriage

According to the authors of "The State of Affairs", there exists a common belief that a fundamental purpose of marriage is to control sexual partnering (a point that is specifically stated in Christian weddings). The belief is that it's natural for humans to have sexual desires but they cannot be acted on if humans live together and engage in marriage.

Famous quotes containing the words purpose and/or marriage:

When one pays a visit it is for the purpose of wasting other people’s time, not one’s own.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

A marriage based on full confidence, based on complete and unqualified frankness on both sides; they are not keeping anything back; there’s no deception underneath it all. If I might so put it, it’s an agreement for the mutual forgiveness of sin.
